My husband of 32 yrs was just diagnosed w/ SCLC about 10 days ago. I am still in shock..it has metastasized to the liver (about 30-40% involvement) but not to the brain, kidney or bladder or anywhere else. His lymph nodes in the lung are also diseased, they said it was extensive. He does have some plueral involvement on the left side but the right lung is clear. His oncologist wants to do a "global" attack w/ carboplatin and another  chemo drug that escapes me at this moment. They say he is not a candidate for surgery and radiation is not indicated at this time. I feel like we are stepping into a great abyss, not sure if the 50-60% chance of responding to the treatment is death sentence or what I am supposed to think. If he responds well to the chemo, is it typical that radiation could follow later?

lilterrisue, you are going to get the same good news about your husband also. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and you and your husband are in my thoughts.

As an update to my thread...hubby had scans last week and we got the results today..after three rounds of chemo his tumors show about a 90% reduction in what the onc calls remarkable success! We feel SO blessed..and re-energized to continue the fight!

That's great news! Thanks for sharing!

What great news about your husband...we all rejoyce with you.  It sounds like he is a fighter and tell him to keep on keeping on.
Hi my name is Tammy
I was diag with lung cancer in 2007. I did six months of chemo very strong ones I might say. I've been clean for 3 1/2 years now..just like your husband not candidate for surgery or radiation. Left lung no good. Not even lung transplant. I thought this was a death sentence but not so...I know it's a scary situation but try to keep positive and help your husband stay positive. I've been on Avastin this whole time every three weeks..u might ask about the med..

Hope everything works out well for u all. I know all this is mind boggling but make sure you research his options and chems and all that, I know my husband did it and we knew what what was... Take care and God Bless you both.

Hello Tammy,

I know you weren't responding to my post, but may I ask what type of lung cancer you had? 3 1/2 years is fabulous.

Hi,
I was dx with stage IIIb lung cancer, I'm going to try and spell this word...carcinoma but with "and" or something on the front can never spell it right..location right middle lobe..it spread to my nymph nodes and behind my esophagus. It was on an xray back in 2003 but no one thought it was important to tell me so it was found in 2007 by mistake...this is the one from where you smoke...I've been doing maintenance dosages of Avastin this is an med that starves the tumor from the blood...got my scans back everything stills look good.God Bless Tammy
