Hi All, I 'm curious about the rules on event postings. Do we have to post an event in a certain way? In a certain place? Can we "talk " about an event in a post or should it be just left to the listings to get the word out?

I was on another support site and they were having a discussion on the fact that someone had posted about an event they were having and it was well intentioned but the post went bad when someone didn' t like who the event was for. The site pulled the post maybe because it's against their rules  or the poor person who started the post did because of the backlash. I was wondering what the policy is here about this type of posting.

Hey John,

We'd like to keep the postings of events to the calendar only. That's why we wanted to provide that feature. We know it's important for people to know what events are out there, but it gets tricky in support forums when people ask for money for things. That's what was happening to the post you mention. Now, if you want to talk about a specific organization and ask questions about it, that's fine. But as far as specific events go, that's why we wanted to have an events calendar here.

One thing regarding the events calendar postings: We have it set so that an LCA staff person has to "approve" it before it goes up. We want to be able to look into whether or not the organization or even is "legit" before we approve it. That means, it is an established, lung cancer-specific not-for-profit organization or an activity that is supporting one of those types of organizations. We don't feel comfortable with people posting a fundraiser to help pay for Aunt Mary's treatments. We understand that Aunt Mary may have needs, but this isn't an appropriate place to raise money for them.

Does that make sense?

Amy
That's exactly what I wanted to know. I know I don't want to be afraid that I'll be solicited everytime I come on. If I did give money to your Aunt Mary, I don't want to be asked again and again . It might not be you asking but next it could be another person on here who needs something. Just doesn't work that way. Thanks Amy. It was the post you thought it was.
John
