Lung Cancer Alliance has formally moderated an online support
community since 2006, but our experience and knowledge have been
formed over time, beginning with the original Lung Cancer Survivors
for Change message board, developed by Estrea Janoson in 1999.
Estrea, a lung cancer survivor, originally created the board as a
space for activism but added a support component in 2000. Two years
later, she and another survivor, Dave Grant, created a new online
community called Survivors for Lung Cancer Awareness, which also
allowed an active space for support. LCA joined with Estrea and
Dave in 2006 to create the LCA Survivors Community.
LungLoveLink continues the evolution of the online support
community by combining the best of message board formats for
support while adding space for sharing resource lists, events, and
relevant news links.
The use of online communities for support is constantly changing.
We hope this new place will meet a wider range of needs for support
and resources in the lung cancer community!
