I have/had lung cancer, I am a lung cancer advocate

RLL 12/19/07. Cancer was not diagnosed until the 7 cm mass removed with the lobe was biopsied. I had gone 7 months with the mass being diagnosed (in my small town) as something that 'looks like pneumonia, but doesn't act like pneumonia'. Luckily I got in to see some doctors at BWH in Boston. They did not stop until they could absolutely, positively tell me what was going on in my chest!! My philosophy about the big "C" - I am going to beat it, and have fun while I do!!!
12/2007 Surgery, RLL removed, Cancer diagnosed
Mucinous adenocarcinoma, mixed subtype, with acinar (40%), papillary (40%) and bronchioloalveolar (20%)
2/2008 10 wk CT scan - NED
3/2008 Chemo (Cisplatin/Nevelbine) started
5/2008 First NED CT scan following chemo! I am pumped!!!
7/2008 Second NED CT scan!! Am I on a roll or what?!?!
11/2008 Third NED scan - YIPPEE!
05/2009 Fourth NED scan - I've got the beast on the run!
11/2009 Fifth NED scan - 2 years Cancer Free!

My pleasure. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed your discourse on the way animals accept and respond to their illnesses. Bravo! We super-animals still have much to learn, Jan

Hi Erin - I hope you are doing okay. It is always good to get away no matter where it is. Some days I am happy just to take a day off of work and do nothing! Hope whatever you had done went well and you are back to having fun again. That is good you go 6 months without a scan. That is my goal for next year. My doctor is just starting to let me go every four months for now, though today I talked him into a fifth month so I hope I don't regret that but I feel good and he is okay with it. I told him I am not getting a scan around my birthday in September so he is just going to have to wait unless I feel something happening!! That is good you get to visit your mom. I miss having my mom around during these times. She passed away four years ago from Pancreatic cancer at the age of 65, way too young. So when I was diagnosed I so missed having her to be there for me but I know in spirit she is there. Anyway, I am tired, I had a busy day at the doctor today. I got great news that my cancer is still stable and nothing is happening so my friend and I went out and celebrated but I am so ready for bed now!!
Talk to you soon.

Hi Erin -
That picture is my get away picture. During the summer right after I was diagnosed with lung cancer a good friend of mine would pack me up in her car and we would go to the beach in Bridgman, MI on the Saturdays I felt halfway decent and not a chemo week. That was my peace and tranquility time to do nothing but enjoy the waves and the sunshine. Ever since then her and I pray for good weekends during the summer to just get in the car and get away for the day. It is only 1 1/2 hour drive from my house so it isn't to bad.
Do you have any special place or thing you do to just get away and focus on just you time? I know I never thought of it much before but I sure do now. I hate to say it but I almost get selfish at times wanting time to have to myself. I am not married or have kids but I still need time away from work and everyday things. How about you?
Opps, got to get to bed.
Talk to you soon.
Maribeth
