First, thank you to those who responded to my blog regarding my mom getting the same cancer I have.

Today we had another procedure in preparation for a possible cyberknife.  The surgeon feels my mom is not a candidiate for a lobectomy due to her weight, etc.

He is asking for another biopsy (one was done a month ago)...not sure I understand why.  He stated today "It is cancer" - and it's been almost two months since diagnosis (this thing is growing), then mentioned he had concerns about Mom "becoming oxygen dependent" (I am).  Who cares?  She's 80 years old.  I feel like we're going in circles.

Could anyone put these puzzle pieces together?  What is the surgeon waiting for?  What is the oxygen addiction problem as long as she breathes better?  Why are they waiting?

Besides that, it's 70 degrees here in South Florida and...cold!  (Yes, you Northerners can shoot me for that).  Happy New Years - and to all of us - a little easing up in 2013.  We all could use it!

Amy:  Yes, a 70 degree day is all relative.  But today it reached 80 and I got to lie by the pool - kind of makes up for having cancer.  After my Mom's procedure last week, the surgeon came in the waiting room and said "I want to send Home Health to your house" - I have no idea what he means.  I made appointments with both that surgeon and her oncologist.  It's only been not quite 2 months and she is not eating (which is good) - I just wish doctors were more forthright regarding surgery or no surgery.  Just can't get an answer...but I will.

As an aside, your dedication to this site is humbling.  You truly are an amazing and giving person - with great tenacity as you just keep helping and helping.  Thank you!

Hi Marilyn,

All good questions about the oxygen dependence. I don't know for sure what the specifics of the doctor's concern would be. I would guess that her overall health would be a greater concern but I'm not a doctor. I wonder if older patients aren't as able to process oxygen from outside sources?

Either way, how did things go with the procedure? Cyberknife is becoming more of a preference for people who are not great candidates for surgery either way so it would be great if it's an option.

Please let us know how things are going now.

Amy

PS - I'd LOVE a 70 degree day! :-) But I know it's all relative.
