I'm not at all sure I believe this but anything is worth a try if it isn't harmful...

Subject: Lemons and Cancer

LISTEN UP FOLKS:  This is something that we should all take seriously Even doctors are now saying that there is value in trying LEMON

So, a tablespoon of "real lemon" (the concentrate in a bottle) in a glass of water every morning. What can it hurt?

Subject: A must-read-
The surprising benefits of lemon!

I remain perplexed!

This is the latest in medicine, effective for cancer!

Read carefully & you be the judge.
Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy.
Why do we not know about that? Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits. You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations? As you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes. You can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc... It is credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumors. This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types.. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders.
The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that:
It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas ... The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells.

Amy is exactly right. There are many foods, supplements etc etc that have anti-cancer properties. That doesn't at all imply that any of them in themselves are cures for cancer. The best answer anyone can come up with is to do the best overall for our health to fight cancer the best we can... Good luck, God bless and keep the faith...

I probably should have been more explicit in my earlier response.

There is no evidence that I am aware of indicating that lemon juice can kill cancer. There is evidence that citrus has anti-cancer properties, but those are two very different things. There are a lot of things that have "anti-cancer properties" but there are many steps between what kills cancer in a lab versus in your body. Several studies have indicated that citrus consumption decreases the risk of developing certain cancers, but prevention is different than treatment.

Drinking lemon juice in water is not harmful. Touting cures when there is no evidence can be harmful. But I think that David was sharing this piece as something he is skeptical about but doesn't see the harm in trying, which I understand. If he were sharing an article about really expensive herbal supplements that we don't have information about, I might be more cautious.

I can't believe if this were true that it hadn't gone viral and been a ll over the news. I'm not sure that it's a good idea to put something like this out there and have people drinking lemon thinking that they'll get cured of cancer. You know the old saying, If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. I don't like to be a nay sayer but things like this are sometimes more harmful than not. Snopes doesn't do science.

I have heard of that along the way.  I am going to buy lemons and stick to one tbsp in am.  Can't hurt.

Thanks for the information.  Also stay away from sweets as much as possible.  I heard that also so I do that also.

Drink Black Currant juice that u can get in the refrigerator dept of a grocery store.  It flushes out all free radicals.  I have a glass about twice a wk over ice.  It is delicious.

 I looked it up on snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/medical/disease/lemons.asp

Looks like it certainly won't hurt and that there are some interesting studies of the properties of citrus fruits, but that it's probably a bit exaggerated.

All the same, I'm a fan of lime juice in seltzer water instead of soda, so it can't hurt! And if it keeps me from drinking soda, it's definitely a big health benefit!
