Linking you to resources and support in the lung cancer community!

I went to oncologist yesterday.  Three years ago I had my right lower lobe removed.  They keep changing oncologists here. I  understand it is because of the politics.  Oh well.

Anyway I went three months ago, and this (new) oncologist told me not to have anymore blood work done for a year.  With my surgery there were no lymph nodes sent to lab.  Dr. lied to me I told him I did not think that was why the government was broke.  I told him I have been short of breath.  He said well you had part of your lung removed didn't you.  What a creep.  I also have copd.  I really don't care if I see this creep again.  I hope he moves on to another state.

I told my daughter I was going to talk to someone there about this but she said it could make it bad for me.  I am thinking I still am because this dr. is so in love with himself, I am sure he could not have feelings for anyone else.

He also said if you were two years lung cancer free he was 90% sure it would not come back, if a person did not smoke.  I quite smoking long ago.  I am not sure he I right about this however.

I just wanted to vent.  Thank you and Happy New Year.

Carolyn,
So glad you have at least one dr that you trust. Do ask him for a referral for a new onc. And no, a good dr would not be offended if you got a second opinion. They can't make it bad for you. Chances are that other medical professionals feel the same way you do but can't say much.

Thank you all for the correspondence.  I am still not sure how to work lunglove link but I stumble through.

Yes I will get another oncologist.  Even if I have to drive away for it.  I went to primary dr. this week, and yep now I have the flu.  I was wondering how you all feel about just going to my primary and pulmonologist.  I do trust my pulmonologist.  I have had him for the three years now.  In fact he is the one that accidently found the lung cancer.  He was checking me for blood clots, because I was so darn tired.  Then he found the cancer.  I know if I get cancer again I will need an oncologist, but don't you think I could just wait until that happens if it does?  I go to pulmonologist in 3 months I will talk to him about it also.

Thank you all so much for being here.  We are all so  much support for each other.  Thank you again and God bless.  Carolyn

It's so important for us to find doctors that are not only competent but also doctors we can talk to. It's very difficult to explain how we feel when we are going through this and some doctors really don't have much understanding outside the text books.  If you're not happy with your doctor, find another one. Good luck, God bless and keep the faith...

Hi Carolyn,

While it is true that lung cancer recurrences are most likely to happen within two years of diagnosis,it is possible for the cancer to come back many years later. Do you see a pulmonologist for your COPD? If so, do you like that doctor and trust him or her? Or do you have a primary care physician who you feel like you coudl talk to about the shortness of breath?

I can't remember but do you have CT scans as follow up? If so, how frequently? That is the most common type of follow up after treatment for lung cancer. If you haven't had a CT scan in a long time, I would imagine that the shortness of breath is enough to justify having one done, regardless of whether you had lung cancer or not.

Sorry you are going through this.

You had a really bad time, what on earth did he think he was up to. Is it possible to get referred to another hospital?

I am sorry Trish.  I did not have chemo, radiation or anything.  Surgeon said he sent lymph node in and it was neg.  However the lab did not get it.  He also cut my pulmonary artery.  Almost bled out on table.  Had two pints of blood.  When I went back to surgeon for follow up he said I had to have a little blood, like no big deal.  WEL
L the oncologist I was seeing at the time said it was a big deal I almost bled out on table.

Good luck to you my friend.

Take care Trish

Carolyn
